What a Chocolatey Day… and I’ve failed :(

Pictures of the chocolate chip cookies… or so called…

1st & 2nd batch (Chocolate Chip Cookie Squares)

3rd batch (Chocolate Chip Cookie Cupcakes)

4th batch (Chocolate Chip Cookie Pie)

As the post subject goes, I totally failed in baking a good chocolate chip cookie (in an actual cookie size). Will have to think of how to make them in a good cookie shape. Anyone wanna share any tips ?

What a Chocolatey Day

While I’m writing this post away, I have 2 trays of chocolate chip “cookies” in the oven baking away. You must be wondering why did I put inverted commas at the cookies…

When I initially started this, I did intend to bake chocolate chip cookies… however my 1st and 2nd batch were ruined (in a way). The taste was superb (cheh wah!) but the looks were totally out… not any ordinary cookie shapes you would have seen. They were all glued together like baking a cake or pastry or something. Will put up the pix later on to show you what I meant.

Hence, I’m currently trying to separate them by putting them into cups (something like cupcakes). Maybe I can turn the recipe to be called Chocolate Chip Cupcakes 🙂

Am crossing my fingers that it would turn out better than the 1st and 2nd batch… Will upload pix to show you at the end of the day 🙂

Meanwhile, enjoy this simple recipe that I got from Nigella’s website.

Chocolate Cake

leave a comment »

Had a fun day baking chocolate cake for my kids. Started off late (around 4+ in the evening), and it dragged until dinner time. With the preparation and baking and cooling down, we had a late dinner with my parents. Anyway, watching the anticipation on my girls’ face made me feel wonderful.

This chocolate cake recipe was given by my MIL. Though not perfect, at least it turned out quite good, with praises all around (hehe)…

Here’s the recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 250g melted butter
  • 250g sifted plain flour
  • 250g sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence
  • 2 tsp sifted baking powder
  • 6 eggs
  • 100g cooking chocolate
  • 100g roasted cashew nuts (can put in other types of nuts)

Method:

  1. Pre-heat oven to 200°C.
  2. Grease and line the base of a round pan.
  3. Place cooking chocolate in a bowl, over a pan of simmering water. Allow to melt. Remove the bowl and set aside to cool.
  4. Beat sugar and butter until creamy.
  5. Put in the eggs one at a time into the sugar and butter mixture.
  6. Mix them well.
  7. Sift the flour and baking powder (again) into the above mixture.
  8. Pour in the cooking chocolate.
  9. Place the cashew nuts at the bottom of the pan.
  10. Pour the cake mixture into the pan.
  11. To make it more interesting, put the cashew nuts at the top of the cake.
  12. Bake it for 1 hour 20 minutes at 190°C, or until cooked through when tested with a skewer.
  13. Cool the cake for about 10 – 15 minutes.
